SS&C SummerWind Performing Arts Center - Press Releases
SS&C CEO Provides Grant for Windsor's SummerWind
Performing Arts Center Sets Sights on a 2010 Concert Season
March 4, 2009 - Windsor, CT. Celebrate Windsor! Inc. (CWI) announced today a
charitable foundation controlled by William C. Stone, CEO of SS&C Technologies
Inc., a Windsor-based financial services provider, has presented the non-profit
organization that operates SummerWind, with a grant of $500,000. The grant will
support the kick off of the SummerWind capital campaign and secure start-up
funding for the 2010 season. The arts center, now to be called the SS&C
SummerWind Performing Arts Center will dedicate the balance of 2009 to raise
the remaining $550,000 necessary to replace SS&C SummerWind's signature tent
which collapsed in a snow storm in 2003 following its first season.
"We are thrilled by this remarkable turn of events and Bill's generosity," said
Peter DeMallie, president of Celebrate Windsor! Inc. "Now that we have landed
the naming rights sponsor and are a debt-free institution, we look forward to
presenting Grammy Award-winning artists at this outstanding regional performing
arts center."
SummerWind opened in 2002 with such acts as Judy Collins and Wynton Marsalis. In
2003, the venue continued operations using a temporary tent design after the
collapse of the canopy during a February snowstorm. In 2004, eight shows were
presented including Blood, Sweat & Tears, Bruce Hornsby, and the Ramsey Lewis
Trio. Further seasons were cancelled as CWI sought legal remedies for the tent
collapse.
"With Mr. Stone's incredible showing of support, SummerWind has turned a
corner," said John Berky, Celebrate Windsor!'s Executive Director. "The legal
issues are behind us and we are ready for a new beginning. I am delighted to
report that a new tent has been designed. We must now raise the remaining funds
to complete the construction. Thanks to Mr. Stone's donation, we are well on
our way to having the funds for our comeback - the 2010 season."
SS&C SummerWind is located in the Griffin Office Park on the Windsor /
Bloomfield line just off of Blue Hills Avenue. The site is designed to
accommodate 1,500 people under a large tent. An additional 2,500 people can sit
on the lawn that is graded to allow a view of the stage from all locations.
Nearby parking is available using the spaces within the Griffin Office Park. In
past seasons, SummerWind has focused on family-oriented entertainment with a
line-up of Grammy Award-winning artists.
"SS&C SummerWind is a distinctive and charming venue," said William C. Stone,
Chairman and CEO of SS&C Technologies, Inc. "I trust that other companies, both
new and past supporters, will step forward to provide community support to
rebuild this performing arts center for the benefit of their employees, the
town and our region. We are happy to have our name attached to this venue."
